108th Blue Star (2022) & 7th Gold Star (2022)
The Kent Garden Club dedicated both a Blue Star Memorial By-Way and a Gold Star Memorial By-Way on May 14, 2022. The two markers are located at Grand Rapids Home for Veterans, 3000 Monroe Avenue, Grand Rapids.
Michigan Veteran Home member council President and resident of the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans, Corporal Robert Troost (retired), had a vision for a memorial garden on the grounds. Meanwhile, the Kent Garden Club had a vision of a beautiful peaceful garden for meditation. When the two visions united, the community came together to make this a reality. Teamwork, fundraising, and hard work ensued creating a beautiful, restful place for reflection.
