67th Blue Star (2013)
District 6 Garden Clubs of Michigan Garden Clubs, Inc. dedicated a Blue Star Memorial on May 11, 2013. The marker is located at Great Lakes National Cemetery, 4200 Belford Rd, Holly.
Holly is located in Oakland County, which aligns with District 1. When planning for this marker, District 6 was unaware that the National Cemetery was not geographically aligned to their District. In 2025, the District 1 (Ann Ryan) and District 6 (Kathy Sauber) Directors agreed to District 6 retaining ownership.
17 District 6 clubs contributed equally towards this Memorial in 2013 and two clubs, Yard and Garden Club of Flint and Touch the Earth Garden Club of Grand Blanc, hosted the dedication event (source: Pat Wilber, District 6 Director in 2013).
To ensure all Memorials are being respectfully maintained, MGC implemented a policy in 2025 where specific clubs assumed either ownership or oversight of MGC and District Memorials. Following the implementation of this policy, Touch the Earth Garden Club graciously accepted ownership.
