Laingsburg-Perry

September 5, 2020 by

Dedication Date: 09-12-2009

laingsburg-perry

On September 12, 2009, the Across the Fence Post and Perry Garden Clubs dedicated a Blue Star Memorial, no. 41 in the state of Michigan, at the I-69 Woodbury Rest Area between the exits of Perry and Laingsburg.

In keeping with the original dedication, every year after the 2009 dedication, the two garden clubs have held a memorial service rededicating the Blue Star Memorial to its original cause. The two clubs set aside time every year during Memorial Day weekend to pay tribute to past, present and future armed forces members by holding a special service at the Blue Star marker.

The service consists of a welcome speech by one of the club members, pledge of allegiance to the American flag, a speech by a member of each of the two garden clubs, a song between each speech and taps played by a member of the Perry high school band. In addition, a fresh wreath is placed at the Memorial to commemorate the service of our armed forces and celebrate the holiday. The brief Memorial Day weekend service is the clubs’ way of showing their respect and appreciation for the freedom and security the American armed forces members have and continue to provide for our country.
