On May 25, 2014, the Wayne Garden Club dedicated a Blue Star Memorial in their city’s Veterans Plaza. The dedication was held in conjunction with a local VFW following the Memorial Day parade.
The ceremony began with the Pledge of Allegiance followed with the Nation Anthem played by the Wayne Memorial and John Glenn High School Bands. Jean Goetz from the Michigan Garden Clubs spoke to the meaning and importance of this tribute. A wreath was placed at the memorial to commemorate the service of our armed forces, past, present and future. This Memorial Day weekend ceremony is the Wayne Garden Clubs’ way of showing their respect and appreciation for the freedom and security the American armed forces have and continue to provide to our country, lest we forget. The dedication concluded with the playing of TAPS.
The Wayne Garden Club dedicated their second Blue Star Memorial Highway Marker on June 10, 2015. Our first being a memorial marker in our Veterans Plaza. We held a simple dedication under gorgeous blue skies with City of Wayne dignitaries and club members. This marker is placed in the entrance garden to our city on Michigan Avenue. It is an honor to remember our service men and women.
